Overview

The Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) will work as part of the school’s inclusion and support team to assess, diagnose, and deliver interventions for pupils with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN). The role focuses on helping pupils access learning, improve communication skills, and participate fully in school life.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct assessments of pupils with speech, language, and communication difficulties, including those with additional needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and SEMH.

Develop and deliver individualised therapy plans and group interventions in collaboration with teaching and support staff.

Provide training and guidance to teachers and teaching assistants on communication strategies and classroom adaptations.

Contribute to the development of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) by supplying reports, targets, and progress updates.

Work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure consistent support for pupils.

Maintain accurate clinical records in line with professional and school policies.

Support whole-school initiatives to improve communication-friendly environments.

Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to reviews of pupil progress.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

Degree or MSc in Speech and Language Therapy (HCPC registered).

Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

Experience working with children and young people, ideally within an educational setting.

Strong understanding of SLCN, ASD, and developmental language disorders.
